Roller coaster accident: Boy, 6, falls out of seat on Texas ride as seat belt pops open – TomoNews
AMARILLO, TEXAS — The terrifying moment a little boy’s seat belt came undone on an amusement park ride has been captured on video by his father.
Dad Delbert Latham filmed on his cellphone as his son Keysen, 6, slipped to the bottom of the Mouse Trap ride at the Wonderland Park in Amarillo,Texas on April 22, CNN reported.
Latham grabbed his son tightly and held him for the rest of the ride.
Writing on Facebook, Latham said he reported the incident to staff at the park but their response angered him. Staff stopped visitors from sitting in the back seat but continued to operate the ride, Latham said.
The Mouse Trap is 52 feet tall and 1,710 feet long, according to the park’s website. Rides on the Italian-made roller coaster last about two minutes, according to footage filmed by riders on YouTube.
Wonderland Park said in a statement it was extremely concerned about the incident, CNN reported.
The park said the back car was immediately taken out of operation and checks were made on all the other seat belts, adding that safety checks were carried out daily. The Mouse Trap was back in full operation the next day, the statement said.
The park said in the statement that the ride was initially built without seat belts but it later installed them for additional safety, CNN reported.
