NTSB: PTC system not installed on track where Amtrak train derailed
The US National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has confirmed that a safety system known as Positive Train Control (PTC) was not installed on the section of track where an Amtrak train derailed, killing three people. The system can automatically slow trains if they are going too fast. The company was on schedule to have the system installed and operational in the spring, ahead of a December 2018 federal deadline.
