Shenzhen “sky rail” offers a new alternative for public transport
Here’s a possible solution to China’s congested roads and reduce pollution: a new type of electric-powered public transport called the “sky rail”, which is due to be launched in South China’s Shenzhen. The manufacturer BYD has said that the elevated monorail takes up less space, and only one third of the production time of traditional subways, and since it runs on electricity and above street level, it can help reduce both air pollution and ground traffic congestion. While the new light rail system in Shenzhen could be a major boost to China’s public transport industry, can it really help reduce the number of cars on the streets? CCTV’s Xu Xinchen has more.
