UN chief calls on countries to expand resettlement for refugees
UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has called on all countries to pledge places for Syrian refugees for resettlement. The UN estimates that at least 10 percent of Syrian refugees, or about 480,000 people, need resettlement or another form of admission into a third country. The five-year conflict in Syria has driven nearly five million refugees abroad, with many having settled in Turkey, Lebanon and Jordan.
